Ingredients
- 12 ounces raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 3 cups broccoli florets
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or avocado oil
- 2 tablespoons water
- 2 garlic cloves, finely minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, finely grated
- 2 green onions, sliced
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds, optional
- Red pepper flakes, optional
Method
- Make the sauce. Add the soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, honey, cornstarch, and water to a small bowl. Whisk until smooth. Set aside.
- Prepare the shrimp. Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels. Season lightly with black pepper. You may skip extra salt because the soy sauce already adds salt.
- Cook the shrimp. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp in a single layer. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes on each side, until pink and opaque. Transfer the shrimp to a clean plate.
- Cook the broccoli. Add the broccoli and 2 tablespoons of water to the same pan. Cover and cook for 3 to 4 minutes. The broccoli should be bright green and tender but still slightly crisp.
- Add the garlic and ginger. Remove the lid. Add the garlic and ginger. Stir for about 30 seconds, until fragrant.
- Combine everything. Return the shrimp to the skillet. Whisk the sauce once more, then pour it into the pan. Stir for 1 to 2 minutes, until the sauce thickens and coats the shrimp and broccoli.
- Finish and serve. Turn off the heat. Add the green onions, sesame seeds, and red pepper flakes if using. Serve immediately.
